Right after your Transformative Acne Treatment - Bi-Weekly, the biggest rule is simple: keep your skin calm. If you loved that “fresh and clean” feeling after extractions and LED, protect it for the next 24 to 72 hours with gentle cleansing, light moisture, and mineral SPF. Skip heat, sweat, makeup, and strong actives for a few days so your skin stays balanced, not irritated. If you’re coming to see me in Sherman Oaks, this plan also helps you handle our sun and warm afternoons without losing your results.
The first 24 to 48 hours: keep it clean, cool, and boring
This is the window where most “oops” moments happen. Your skin may be a little red, a bit tender, and extra reactive. That’s normal after a results-driven acne session that includes professional extractions, targeted serums, and LED therapy.
For 24 to 48 hours, I generally recommend: gentle cleanser only, a lightweight moisturizer, and mineral SPF. No hot yoga, no heavy gym sweating, no sauna, no steam rooms, and no pools. And yes, that includes “just a quick workout.” Sweat plus heat tends to stir up inflammation.
Commuting tip for Sherman Oaks clients
If you’re headed back onto US-101 or running errands along Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks (Sherman Oaks Village), try to keep the car cool and avoid sitting in direct sun. Heat and UV can keep redness hanging around longer than it needs to.
- Do: wash hands before touching your face, change your pillowcase if you can, and keep hair products off your jawline and forehead.
- Don’t: pick, squeeze, or “check” clogged pores in the mirror. That’s how a calm breakout turns into a mark that lingers.
- Pause: retinoids, AHA/BHA exfoliants, and benzoyl peroxide for 3 to 7 days or until your skin is fully calm.
Days 3 to 7: the “don’t trigger a setback” week
If you leave my treatment room feeling hydrated and balanced, the goal is to keep that same energy all week. This is where sunscreen and product choices really matter, especially in Sherman Oaks. We’ve got that Mediterranean climate, and even in September the sun is strong.
SPF rule for the full 7 days: mineral SPF 30+ every morning, and reapply if you’re outside. Avoid direct midday sun if you can, even if you’re “just walking to the car.”
Is it normal to purge after a facial?
Sometimes you’ll see a small flare of tiny bumps or a few surface breakouts after a deep acne-focused facial. People often call that “purging.” If it happens, it tends to show up within the first several days and settle within about a week or two. If you’re seeing painful cysts, spreading redness, blistering, or anything that feels like it’s ramping up instead of calming down, I want to know right away.
What healing acne often looks like
The best signs that acne is clearing up are usually less swelling, flatter bumps, less tenderness, and fewer new inflamed spots popping up. You might still have a little redness where a breakout was, but the “angry” look should soften. That’s your skin doing its job.
The simple routine that protects your Bi-Weekly results
This treatment works best as a series every two weeks. In between visits, I’m looking for consistency, not a complicated 10-step routine. Clients who do well long-term usually stick to the basics and stop “product hopping.”
AM (daily)
Gentle cleanse, light moisturizer, mineral SPF 30+. If you’re acne-prone, SPF is not optional. It helps protect your barrier and keeps post-breakout marks from hanging on.
PM (daily)
Gentle cleanse, moisturizer. After your “pause window, ” add back actives slowly. I like one change at a time, every few nights at first, so we can tell what your skin actually likes.
If you’re searching “facials near me, ” “facial spa near me, ” or “skin treatment near me” and you’re hoping for results you can keep, aftercare is the difference. It’s how you hang onto that fresh, clean pore feeling instead of cycling back into irritation.
Peeling, scabbing, redness: what’s normal, and when I want you to reach out
Mild redness, light peeling, and a little tenderness can happen after acne-focused facials, especially if we did extractions and you’re actively breaking out. Keep your hands off, moisturize lightly, and let your skin shed on its own.
“From the very first facial, she took the time to truly understand my skin and created a customized regimen that has genuinely changed my skin for the better.”
one of our regulars
Reach out to me if you notice: heavy swelling, intense pain, spreading redness, signs of infection, or blistering. I’d rather talk through a photo and your symptoms early than have you stress about it.
And if you’re irritated close to your next appointment, don’t force it. Since this is a bi-weekly series, staying on schedule matters, but I’ll always choose skin calmness over pushing through inflammation.
If you’re in Studio City, Encino, Van Nuys, North Hollywood, Toluca Lake, or Valley Glen, it’s usually easy to swing by the Ventura Boulevard corridor for a quick check-in. If you want broader context on acne-focused skin treatment options, I also put together a guide to acne treatments on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks.
Ready for your next Bi-Weekly session? Here’s the quick refresher
Transformative Acne Treatment - Bi-Weekly is a 60-minute skin treatment focused on clearing breakouts and reducing inflammation, and it’s $175. If you stay consistent and keep your homecare simple, this series tends to build momentum.
If you’re not sure what your skin is doing this week, or you’re wondering if a product is safe to restart, send a message. I’ll point you in the right direction so you don’t undo the work we just did.
