Advanced Lymphatic Therapy aftercare: first 48 hours
By Transcendence Skin | August 22, 2026
Advanced Lymphatic Therapy (Vodder Method Manual Lymphatic Drainage) is a 60-minute service, $175.
I’m going to give you the most important rule first: hydrate like it’s part of your treatment for the next 48 hours. When someone tells me the experience felt “personal from start to finish, ” that’s exactly how I want your aftercare to feel too. Drink water steadily, keep your movement gentle, and skip anything that overheats you or spikes inflammation, especially during Sherman Oaks’ warm, dry summer days.
The first 24 hours after Vodder lymphatic drainage: keep it light
Advanced Lymphatic Therapy is a gentle technique, but your body still needs a little space to do the work. The goal in the first day is simple: support fluid flow without pushing your system too hard.
Do this in the first 24 hours
- Sip water throughout the day. If you’re out on Ventura Boulevard in the Sherman Oaks Village corridor and it’s hot, add an extra glass or two.
- Take 2 to 3 short walks. Think easy pace, 10 to 20 minutes.
- Do diaphragmatic breathing for 2 to 5 minutes a few times a day. Slow inhale, belly expands, slow exhale.
- Wear loose, non-restrictive clothing. Waistbands and tight shapewear can work against what we just did.
Avoid this in the first 24 hours
- Strenuous workouts, heavy lifting, or anything that leaves you drenched in sweat.
- Heat: saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, hot baths. If you need to rinse off, go with a cool to lukewarm shower.
- Alcohol. It can dehydrate you and slow the recovery vibe you’re trying to keep.
Compression is a “only if we discussed it” item. If I recommended compression for you, follow the wear-time instructions I gave you. If we didn’t talk about it, don’t add it on your own.
24 to 48 hours: when you want to “feel normal, ” but still protect results
This is the window where people often want to jump back into their full routine. I get it. A lot of my regulars are dedicated gym people, and I hear about training schedules all the time. Still, lymph flow tends to respond best to consistency, not intensity.
My rule of thumb: keep exercise gentle for a full 48 hours. Walking, light stretching, and easy mobility work are usually fine. Save heavy lifting, HIIT, hot yoga, and long runs for after that 48-hour mark.
Quick commuter tip for the 101
If you’re sitting in the car a lot, swelling can creep back in. Set a reminder to do ankle pumps at red lights, take a 2-minute walk when you arrive, and do 5 slow belly breaths before you get out of the car. Small habits make a big difference.
Your first week after Advanced Lymphatic Therapy: steady habits beat “one perfect day”
In the first week, think of your body like it’s finishing a project. You don’t need to baby yourself, but you do want to avoid the big triggers that can bring puffiness and heaviness back fast.
- Keep walking: 10 to 30 minutes most days is great.
- Watch heat exposure: if it’s August in Sherman Oaks, skip midday outdoor workouts for a bit. Heat and dehydration can undo the “lighter” feeling.
- Support circulation: don’t stay in one position for hours. Stand up, stretch, move your ankles and calves.
- Give your body recovery time: sleep matters. A lot.
And if you loved how calm the room felt and how often I checked in during your session, bring that same energy into your week. If something feels like “too much, ” it probably is.
Products and daily habits that protect your lymphatic drainage results
I keep this part simple because aftercare should fit into real life. You don’t need a cabinet overhaul. You need a few supportive choices that keep fluid moving and inflammation down.
My go-to aftercare basics
- Water first. If you struggle with it, keep a bottle in your line of sight all day.
- Cool or lukewarm showers for the first 24 to 48 hours, especially if you run puffy in heat.
- Gentle self-massage only if I showed you. Lymph work is light and specific, so pressure is not the goal.
- Light meals and steady electrolytes often feel better than heavy, salty food right after drainage.
If you found me while searching “skin treatment near me” or “facial spa near me, ” just know I approach body work with the same mindset I use for facials: clear guidance, realistic habits, and support between visits.
When to reach out to me after lymphatic therapy (and when it’s normal)
Mild soreness, a little tenderness, or feeling tired can happen, especially if you were holding a lot of tension or swelling. Light bruising can also happen for some people. What I don’t want is for you to sit at home wondering if something is “fine” when your body is telling you it’s not.
Reach out right away if you have unusual pain, increasing redness or warmth, fever, sudden or worsening swelling, or bruising that’s spreading or getting large.

If you’re coming in from Studio City, Encino, Van Nuys, North Hollywood, Toluca Lake, or Valley Glen, I keep follow-up scheduling straightforward. Being near Ventura Boulevard in the Sherman Oaks Village corridor makes it easy to pop in for a short check-in visit when your calendar is tight. Looking for more than lymphatic work? A lot of people who find me searching “facials near me” end up pairing consistent skin care with body treatments for an all-around reset.
Advanced Lymphatic Therapy aftercare FAQs (quick answers)
How long should I avoid exercise after Advanced Lymphatic Therapy?
I generally recommend avoiding heavy exercise and heavy lifting for 48 hours. Gentle walking and light mobility are usually fine during that window.
Can I shower or bathe after Advanced Lymphatic Therapy?
A cool to lukewarm shower is usually fine. I recommend avoiding hot baths, hot tubs, steam rooms, and saunas for at least 24 to 48 hours because heat and heavy sweating can bring swelling back.
Will Advanced Lymphatic Therapy cause bruising or soreness?
The Vodder Method is gentle, so many people have little to no soreness. Mild tenderness, fatigue, or light bruising can happen for some people. If bruising is large, spreading, or paired with sharp pain, reach out to me.
Can I fly or take a long car trip after lymphatic drainage?
You often can, but plan for swelling management. Hydrate, skip alcohol, take short walking breaks when possible, and do ankle pumps and diaphragmatic breathing during the ride or flight. If you have a post-op situation or a medical concern, let me know so I can advise you conservatively.
When should I contact my therapist after lymphatic therapy?
Reach out right away if you notice increasing redness or warmth, fever, sharp pain, sudden or worsening swelling, or large bruises. I’d always rather you check in than guess.
